QUAL TECHNIQUES

QUALITATIVE

A technique used in government research where respondents are informed of all aspects of an argument before being asked to discuss their views.

Approach

While ICM can undertake a deliberative project that follow a more traditional methodology, we can design a robust methodology and sampling strategy for a project that uses deliberative and more traditional research methods – such as a series of focus group discussions with nationally representative groups.

We can poll participants before the ‘deliberative’ process (to gauge their knowledge of the issues) and then go through a “deliberative” process, typically using video presentations and documents to give participants some background and understanding of the issues.

Finally we would survey them after the deliberative process has ended see if and how their views have changed (and theoretically how the views of the whole population would change if they went through the same process).
